William Humber [1821-1881] began his career in 1835. In 1847, he worked for Thomas Brassey until 1852, when he commenced practice on his own account, surveying railway lines, and working on water supply and drainage projects. From 1872 to 1874, he supervised the Bridport Waterworks. He published a number of books on engineering.
